Silent Images in Haiti

On April 15 I will be flying to Haiti to document alongside a medical team and a relief team as they assist the Haitians in rebuilding the country.  The trip will also include a meeting with the Bishop as he shares his insights and strategies for how to best rebuild the country physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Silent Images has been asked to capture both the tragic and the heroic stories of reconstruction in Haiti, and I am sure I will not have to go far to find both. I traveled to Thailand 6 months after the Tsunami and was not surprised to find great stories of resilience and hope alongside stories of despair and destitution. The one thing that frustrated me the most about Thailand were the stories of how the much waste there was in the aide relief. I pray that the international community has learned from past mistakes and has handled Haiti with greater care. I am also anxious to see if there are any journalists left in Haiti; six months after the tsunami there was not a reporter to be found….I guess the news stations got bored with the place, so they figured the listeners did, too. However, we know the best human interest stories are unfolding now as the Haitians come together to rebuild their country. I am honored to be invited at such a time as this and pray that my camera will be used, not to steal their dignity, but to celebrate the victories and assist in their battles. Keep checking our blog to see images and read stories.

David, Thank you for documenting our medical mission in Tovar. I hope I can access your site and see all your photos of the trip!
