The 2010 Speedway Children’s Charity Grant has allowed Silent Images to host a photography camp for homeless children in partnership with A Child’s Place. Silent Images volunteers and David Johnson, the Silent Images director, are currently teaching four classes each week at Hidden Valley Elementary School, with about twenty five homeless or at-risk children in each class. These children are gaining valuable skills from this class. They’re also excited about taking a field trip to NoDa next week to test their photography skills in the field. Each week, the class includes a photography contest where the volunteers and David pick the best image from the week. Chris, a nine-year old living in a shelter, won the contest the first week and is blossoming as a photographer. Check out his winning image above.
