“Unto us a child is born.”
Isaiah 9:6
Bentley’s mother was faced with a difficult decision. Abortion was an option and nearly became her choice. However, she chose to offer Bentley a chance at life. As many pause at Christmas to celebrate the birth of a child, we are reminded of [...]

A beautiful day made for a great photography shoot at Freedom Park with Pregnancy Resource Center of Charlotte. Team photographers Elizabeth Marx and Emily Chidester photographed several of PRCC’s clients and their children to help further promote the center and their mission. Each photograph embodies PRCC’s commitment to working with women through unexpected or unintended [...]

Silent Images’ volunteers had the honor of teaching a photography class to the students at Turning Point Academy. Each one of these students have been placed on long term suspension by CMS…and some might say that they are not worth investing into. Well, we found that to be far from the truth. The students were [...]

A Silent Images gallery is hanging at Wingate University for August and September. The gallery celebrates the beauty of women and girls as they fight oppression, poverty, sexual abuse and genocide in developing nations. David appeared for a book signing and meet and greet in September. Many students and faculty attended and were educated [...]

For the month of September, Silent Images volunteers are teaching photography to at risk girls at the Community School for Girls. The class is challenging the girls to redefine beauty as they learn to use their cameras to identify beauty in the South End of Charlotte.

Silent Images’ volunteers have taught their first of three journalism classes to children who have arrived to Charlotte as refugees or immigrants. The children, who were from Iraq, Haiti, Venezuela, and Vietnam, were taught photography and journalism skills and then sent home to interview and photograph someone from their family and document their journey story. [...]

Silent Images, a Charlotte based non-profit organization, spent the past three years using their cameras to tell the stories of genocide and famine in Africa and human trafficking in South East Asia. This summer, they refocused their lenses to tell the stories of homeless children in Charlotte. However, this time, Silent Images did not tell [...]

Last week I (Elizabeth) had the privilege of shooting a need for Silent Images with a team of photographers. The Charlotte Eagles soccer team has launched a new ministry called Urban Eagles, where they intentionally get out into the community to give back. When I agreed to help document what they had going on, I [...]

On June 11, the Silent Images team offered a day of free photography to the women and their babies at the Charlotte Pregnancy Resource Center. We hope that the photos will celebrate the beautiful babies and the courageous women who have chosen life. With the mothers’ approval, we have posted some images of these beautiful [...]

Alice White made her first trip to Haiti over 30 years ago, and her heart has never left the nation. Through political instability, military threats, trade embargos, and an earthquake, Alice has been one of the few constants in the land. She has pushed through road blocks and has personally piloted cargo planes to bring [...]
5 March 2010
It was an honor to lecture to an International studies class at Queens University on Friday March 5. The students were receptive to what our mission is at Silent Images and they had a lot of great questions about their role in being a global citizen.
25 February 2010
Over 300 students gathered at Baylor Academy to hear about Silent Images and how they can play an active role in being a responsible and responsive global citizen. It is always an honor to lecture at schools, and I was energized by the students enthusiasm to know more about Africa. Although our time was short, [...]

Country Forgotten: A life on the interstate.
Hobbling alongside another line of traffic on the off-ramp of interstate 40, Country occasionally raises to his head to see if anyone has rolled down their window to offer him anything of substance. “You can never say, some days I’ll only make $5 and then another day, $100,” said Country. [...]

“Charlotte Through Our Eyes” celebrates the accomplishment of 23 local Charlotte youth. Silent Images, a local non-profit organization, partnered with Nexus Church to teach photography to inner city youth, many who are homeless or at-risk. Captured during the summer of 2009, these photographs show the children’s perspective as they explore the beauty of the city [...]
