For the month of September, Silent Images volunteers are teaching photography to at risk girls at the Community School for Girls. The class is challenging the girls to redefine beauty as they learn to use their cameras to identify beauty in the South End of Charlotte.
Silent Images’ volunteers have taught their first of three journalism classes to children who have arrived to Charlotte as refugees or immigrants. The children, who were from Iraq, Haiti, Venezuela, and Vietnam, were taught photography and journalism skills and then sent home to interview and photograph someone from their family and document their journey story. It was an honor to lecture to an International studies class at Queens University on Friday March 5. The students were receptive to what our mission is at Silent Images and they had a lot of great questions about their role in being a global citizen.
Over 300 students gathered at Baylor Academy to hear about Silent Images and how they can play an active role in being a responsible and responsive global citizen.
